I got an email recently that talks about the government using covert tactics to pressurise Justice Ramday, who is heading the full bench hearing the CJ’s case. I really can’t confirm how much of this is true, but considering the way things are going, you never know. At the moment there is no way of finding out the veracity of these claims. All I can confirm is that a reference has been filed against certain PIA officials and Cyrus Minwala, general sales manager of Cathay Pacific by NAB.
Conspiracy theories are abound and not all of them are true. However, if this is indeed true…then…well, what can I say. Read below and make up your own mind. Just thought I’d put it for your benefit. What if it really is on to something.
The real inside story of Justice Ramday and the PIA Reference - Email
Has anyone tried to find out why suddenly the NAB has moved a reference against all those PIA executives who leased and purchased aircraft from Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airlines several years ago?
The real story behind this quick reference is directly linked to the Chief Justice case being heard by the 13-member full bench
headed by Justice Ramday. Not many would know or recall that Justice Ramday is the “Samdhi” of ex-PIA MD Ahmed Saeed of Service Shoes. Saeed’s daughter is married to Ramday’s son.
Now the reference against PIA executives directly hits Ahmed Saeed, but surprisingly his name is absent from the list of all
those who are, or will be, investigated in the Lease/purchase scam.So the reference against Saeed, who has also been very close to Musharraf, having spent many evenings together wining and
dining and womanizing, will hang on the head of Justice Ramday,if he did not behave in the Justice Iftikhar case.Saeed’s daughter and Ramday’s daughter-in-law will create all the Zee TV scenes inside the household to pressurize Ramday to
get Saeed off the hook in the PIA reference, which could keep on hanging on their heads for months and years, if need be.Saeed has been a known crook who made billions in PIA because he was supported by Musharraf but now Musharraf needs the
favours back from Saeed in shape of a Ramday vote to uphold the reference against Justice Iftikhar. Now it should become clear as to why suddenly out of the blue just one case has been picked up against Saeed and all his
corruption of billions was ignored by Musharraf for years.

This sounds so typical of our country’s affairs! I completely buy this story! I say put the whole ruling faction in the country behind bars and give Imran Khan a chance!
Nandino,
Imran can get a chnace only if the people of Pakistan vote for him.
Please stop with offering arbitrary “perfect” solutions. Let us go back to the constitution and rule of law.
Even if the people’s first choice might not be your choice, respect it. Judging by past election results and current opinion polls, Imran is unlikely to win more than a few votes nationwide. He is a good man but unless he can get the people’s votes, he cannot lead the nation.
The winner of the next election is likely to be the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led by Benazir Bhutto. You may not like that result but if that is what the people of Pakistan vote for, that is what should happen under our constitution.

Regime Pressures Supreme Court Presiding Judge Through Case Against Relative
NAB’s Sudden Interest in PIA Corruption Meant to Blackmail Justice Ramday, Who Heads the Bench Dealing With the Chief Justice Issue
By Ayesha Jameel
Keeping up the sad tradition of blackmailing and browbeating judges of superior courts into deciding matters in its favor, the military-intelligence establishment has initiated proceedings aimed at pressuring Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, the Supreme Court Judge hearing the crucial constitutional petition relating to the Chief Justice controversy.
The National Accountability Bureau has moved a reference against several executives of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) involved in the leasing and purchase of used aircraft from Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airlines several years ago. The Chairman of PIA at the time was Chaudhry Ahmed Saeed, a close friend of General Pervez Musharraf, whose many shenanigans remained unnoticed by the authorities despite wide publicity. Even now Mr. Ahmed Saeed has not been named in the NAB reference. Saeed’s daughter is married to Justice Ramday’s son and the purpose of the reference is to scare Saeed into securing Justice Ramday’s “cooperation.
The legal wizards of the military establishment are often assisted by spooks who find ways of keeping the judges under pressure. The current imbroglio, which started with attempts to force the Chief Justice into resigning, was also the outcome of the Intelligence Agencies producing “evidence” of Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry’s “nepotism” on behalf of his son. In that case, Justice Chaudhry fought back and refused to be blackmailed.
The Pakistani covert services are hoping that Justice Ramday would be different. The potential of a reference against Ahmed Saeed will ensure that Mr. Saeed keeps reminding Justice Ramday of the importance of the judge’s support for Saeed’s friend, General Musharraf.
Justice Ramday’s daughter-in-law, too, can be expected to influence her father-in-law of which way the bread is buttered. Most likely, there will be several dramatic scenes at the Ramday family home until the resolution of the constitutional issues that have arisen from the Chief Justice’s botched removal from office.
Although Mr. Saeed has been accused of non-transparent deals while at the head of PIA, the reference relating to the Cathay Pacific plane lease-purchase is the first occasion that NAB has looked into any of the allegations. The timing of the NAB reference and the family dynamic between Justice Ramday and Chaudhry Ahmed Saeed proves, once again, that accountability in Pakistan is only an excuse to pursue political agendas on behalf of the military-intelligence establishment.
