Bob Woolmer’s death: My theory

So, it’s confirmed that Bob Woolmer was murdered. Last couple of days everyone’s been trying to voice their theories about how he was murdered, who may have done it and why. I’d like to put out my theory as well before we actually find out who did it. You see, its a high profile investigation and the rate at which things are going you never know how soon we might find out the identities of the killers and their motives. That’ll be the time when those whose guesses would have clicked would say, ‘Told ya so!’. The so-called foretellers would gloat on the exactitude of their claims. Obviously, they would say that they knew all of it as a matter of fact much before the investigators did. Which makes me wonder about the state of their knowledge? Are they accomplices in crime? Or, did they figure all this out through some next level, divine formulas and calculations? Either way the mystery surrounding Woolmer’s death has allowed many minds to wander and to attempt to figure out reasons for his death.

I made my own little attempt. Having taken all the facts into account and having done my own set of calculations I can say who I think DID NOT murder him. None of the Pakistani team members are involved. Also, even though violent crime is a serious problem in Jamaica I don’t think the local thugs or gangs may have anything to do with it. Why?

The Sky News report on the security arrangements at the Pegasus hotel showed that to enter any room a computerised key card was required. In order to take a lift to any of the floors with rooms one had to show this key card to security personnel guarding it. Also, on each floor were stationed two police officers. These were the basic security arrangements apart from CCTV and other hotel staff who would have been on the lookout for anything suspicious considering the importance of their guests and the high-profile nature of the tournament.

There are several reasons why I feel the Pakistani team had nothing to do with it. While I write this it has been confirmed that they have been eliminated as suspects. No matter how strongly we feel about our team’s failure and the fact that you never know what a man is capable of, I doubt Inzi and his band of ‘brothers’ are capable of cold-blooded murder. Some recent articles are insinuating that since Inzi and Mushtaq had been involved in a serious argument with Woolmer on the morning of the match it may potentially be connected to this incident. This incident did not take place in the heat-of-the-moment. It was planned and planned so well that the Jamaican Police, with assistance from Scotland Yard, has not made any major breakthrough yet. To be not caught on CCTV or by several security guards on the floor is impossible unless the planning was perfect.

Local thugs had no motive or, for the matter, the resources to carry out such an operation. Once again, the planning would have to be impeccable and it would seem impossible that local gangs would go through the trouble of murdering a man without a motive.

Ofcourse, there could be a motive. Money. Skilled merceneries could have been paid to kill the Pakistani coach. So, we probably know the motive of those who carried out the murder. But what about the motive of those who ordered, planned and orchestrated it?

I would go with those who believe that a poweful syndicate of bookies were involved in this. Actually, it could be bookies or whoever, but someone with money and power. Woolmer had obviously done something to make these people unhappy and they had to silence him.

Allegedly, parts of the manuscript for his forthcoming book were stolen from his hotel in Jamaica a few days before his tragic death. It had a chapter devoted to ‘match fixing’. However, the book’s co-author states that the chapter on ‘match fixing’ gave away no names. Could that have something to do with this? I don’t know. All I know is that a man is dead
